On Jan 1st I signed myself up for yet another adventure. This time I will attempt to complete the 100 miles of the Leadville run. Now a 100 miles isn't what is really scaring me, not that it's an easy distance for me, nor is the elevation. What has me a little anxious is more the altitude.
Even though I live in one of the flattest cities in the US, Chicago, I'm confident in my ability to prepare for the elevation gain, unfortunately that means lots of treadmill work:(. Yes I know that sucks but what can you do when the biggest hill around you is called Mount Trashmore and is only 50feet high! Altitude is not something you can really prepare for. Well in a way you can, but going there two weeks before hand is out of the questions so is purchasing one of the masks that you can sleep with that simulates high altitudes(maybe I can rent one:/). I'm sure my wife won't mind sleeping next to Darth Vadar for a few weeks!
Well I'll continue to think about this problem over the next few weeks and see what I can come up with. In the meantime I wanted to start this blog just to document my journey to perhaps help someone in the future, inspire someone else to do something crazy or just for my own selfish reasons and look back at all the crazy things I did along the way.
First up on the crazy list is a 64 mile trail run in the snow covered trails of North Kettle WI. Last year my buddy Brian, also doing Leadville, and I won the event and we are going back to reclaim our title.
Next time I post will be a recap of the Fat Otter Frozen Trek.
Happy Training!
